Nightlife on South Broad Street

Philadelphia’s options for neighborhoods to go out in has been expanding in recent years.

It used to be that only Center City, Old City and South Street were the places to go at night, but that is not the case any more.  We now have Northern Liberties, University City, East Passyunk, and Fishtown. The newest addition to this list is South Broad Street.  Some fun nightlife options on South Broad Street are Boot & Saddle, The Dolphin and just off Broad Street is South Philly Tap Room.

Boot & Saddle is located at 1131 South Broad Street, at Broad & Ellsworth, and has been at its current address since the 70s.  There was a 17 year period where the building sat vacant, but it has been revitalized and reopened as a live music venue, as it has always been.  The bar has a long and storied past, at one time being a regular hang out for sailors who were docked at the Philadelphia Navy Yard.  It now boasts a 60-seat bar and 150-person live music venue.  This fun, unique spot is conveniently one block from Lincoln Square!

The Dolphin is just a couple blocks further down Broad Street at 1539 S Broad Street, at the corner of Broad & Tasker Streets.  The Dolphin is a dive dance club – something not often found in Philadelphia. They are open Wednesday – Saturday from 9:00pm – 2:00am with different DJs rotating all the time.  Check out their website before heading out to see what will be playing that night. They host many genres – from EDM to rap to reggae to pop. Historically, The Dolphin was a go-go bar with billiards and still has some of the character from it’s former life in the current iteration.

South Philly Tap Room is located at 15th & Mifflin Streets, just one block off of South Broad Street.  This is a great option for good food with good beer. The happy hour selections are great, and they serve food late night as well.  The service, selection and scenery make it worth the walk from Lincoln Square.

These are just a few of the great options for nightlife on South Broad Street in Philadelphia.  Lucky for residents of Lincoln Square apartments, this list is bound to keep getting longer!
