Dress up to the nines, enjoy a delicious dinner with great friends, and know that you are part of one of the most well known, secretive events in Philadelphia.

Diner en Blanc is the event of the summer. There will be over a thousand people in attendance who are all dressed in white and have studied all facets of etiquette in order to conduct themselves properly at the “chicest picnic” of the year. It is located in a public space that is away from car traffic and pedestrian traffic.

Francois Pasquier, with a few friends, started this exclusive picnic almost 30 years ago in France. The Diner en Blanc that is located in Paris now yields over 10,000 guests a year. Some of the locations that were chosen for the secret picnic were The Pont Des Arts, the Eiffel Tower, Place Vendome, Champs-Elysees, Place de la Concorde, Le Louvre Pyramid, and the Palais Royal Garden to name a few. Could you imagine eating with friends and many others who are all dressed up in the Champs Elysees of Philadelphia?

If you decide to attend, there are some rules that must be followed. Participation in the event is only made possible by being a member or being sponsored by a member from the previous year. Confirmation will be sent and attendance is absolutely mandatory no matter the weather. Since the event is being held in a public space, the occupied areas must be as clean as it was before the picnic. Attendees must bring their own seating of a table, two white chairs and a white tablecloth. Their picnic basket must be filled with gourmet munchies, cutlery, dishware, and glassware. If attendees wish, they may bring wine or champagne if local laws allow it. Due to the formal nature of the Diner en Blanc, participants must wear white exclusively and dress elegantly.
